Marvel’s Rising Star, Jonathan Majors Convicted on Two Counts of Assault

Jonathan Majors, once touted as a rising star in Hollywood and a significant player in Marvel’s superhero movie franchise, now finds himself at the center of a tumultuous chapter in his career. A recent guilty verdict on charges of assault and harassment has not only stained his reputation but has cast a shadow over his professional trajectory.

The Manhattan jury found Majors guilty on two of the four counts. The charges include reckless assault in the third degree and harassment, carrying potential consequences, including a one-year prison sentence.

The courtroom drama unfolded over an intense two-week period, focusing on Majors’ ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. Despite Majors choosing not to testify, Jabbari’s portrayal of an altercation in a car painted a disturbing picture. The prosecution argued that this incident was the culmination of a troubling pattern of Majors’ controlling behavior.

Jabbari’s testimony revealed the roots of the altercation—a flirty text on Majors’s phone triggering a violent outburst. In response, the defense portrayed Jabbari as the instigator seeking retribution for Majors’ alleged infidelity.

Throughout the trial, revelations emerged, exposing Majors’ questionable conduct. A recorded conversation showcased Majors instructing Jabbari to emulate historical figures like Michelle Obama and Coretta Scott King. Text exchanges unveiled Majors dissuading Jabbari from seeking medical attention for a head wound and making disturbing threats of self-harm.

The fallout from the guilty verdict has sent shockwaves through Majors’ once-promising career. His role in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and his future prospects with Marvel are now uncertain. Disney’s decision to pull the plug on what was the upcoming “Magazine Dreams” underscores the profound impact of this legal debacle on Majors’ professional standing.

Scheduled for sentencing on February 6, 2024, Majors faces not just the prospect of jail time but a looming uncertainty regarding his future in the cutthroat entertainment industry. The conviction raises crucial questions about accountability and redemption in an industry grappling with power dynamics and questionable conduct.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s response underscored the significance of prioritizing survivors in these cases. He acknowledged the prevalence of psychological and emotional abuse in intimate partner violence, praising Jabbari’s bravery in sharing her harrowing experience.

Jonathan Majors’ fall from grace serves as a cautionary tale, forcing Hollywood to confront its own demons and scrutinize the behavior of its public figures. As the industry grapples with these revelations, Majors’ conviction becomes a pivotal moment in the ongoing discourse surrounding accountability for those in the public eye.

Dave Filoni New Chief Creative Officer At Lucasfilm

In a galaxy not so far away, Dave Filoni has ascended to the role of Chief Creative Officer at Lucasfilm. Known for his work on “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Rebels,” Filoni’s recent promotion to Chief Creative Officer places him at the forefront of shaping the future of the beloved franchise.

Amidst the buzz surrounding Filoni’s promotion, an unexpected catalyst emerges with the recent South Park special, “Joining The Panderverse.” Released on Paramount+ at the end of October, the episode took direct shots at The Walt Disney Company and humorously lampooned Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, portrayed in satirical glory by Eric Cartman.

Reports from Midnight’s Edge suggest that Disney executives were not particularly pleased with the episode’s comedic jabs. The behind-the-scenes response at Disney allegedly ranged from surprise and embarrassment to feelings of betrayal and, as described, “overall butthurt.” The episode’s impact prompted discussions between Disney and Paramount, with little constructive dialogue.

Kathleen Kennedy, often described as someone who takes criticism personally, reportedly reacted with anger and used intermediaries to convey her sentiments. Former “The Mandalorian” actress Gina Carano added a satirical touch to this narrative, envisioning how Kennedy might deploy various tactics to control the narrative and suppress criticism.

In the wake of this unexpected cultural moment, one must ponder whether the timing of Filoni’s promotion is more than mere coincidence. As Chief Creative Officer, Filoni is now involved in the inception phase of Star Wars projects, potentially positioning him strategically to navigate external criticisms and reinforce creative leadership.

However, as we scrutinize Filoni’s rise to prominence, doubts about his creative prowess linger. While he garnered acclaim for his work on animated series like “The Clone Wars” and “Rebels,” his foray into live-action Star Wars with “The Mandalorian” and “Ahsoka” has not been without its challenges. Recent critiques suggest a diminishing quality in the former, accompanied by a decline in viewership, raising questions about Filoni’s ability to sustain the magic that animated his earlier successes.

According to reviews from James Carrick and Worth it or Woke, the criticisms directed at “Ahsoka,” a show under Filoni’s creative leadership, become more apparent. Carrick accuses the series of lacking naturalness and organic elements, with lightsaber battles lacking polish, characters exhibiting low energy, and an overall sense of apathy. The show’s pacing, choreography, and execution are questioned, with claims that it feels like a shadow of the once-great Star Wars legacy.

In one particularly scathing section of Carrick’s review, he questions whether anyone involved in the series understands the fundamentals of storytelling, interesting characters, and plot development. The criticism extends to the lackluster fight scenes, uninspired dialogue, and questionable casting choices, including accusations that characters resemble cosplayers rather than embodying the iconic Star Wars universe.

As Filoni navigates the challenges of leading Lucasfilm into the future, it becomes evident that he may not be one with The Force nor the singular solution to the complex dynamics of storytelling, audience engagement, and the ever-evolving landscape of the Star Wars fandom. While Filoni’s creative legacy is established in the animated realm, the skepticism surrounding recent live-action projects suggests that transitioning to a new medium requires more than past successes in a different format. The uncertainties surrounding Filoni’s ability to sustain the enchantment of Star Wars in live-action storytelling remain, casting a shadow on his trajectory within the iconic franchise.

In a bold stride into theatrical waters, Apple’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” has ignited industry conversations, stirring debates on financial performance, star paychecks, and the evolving dynamics of streaming giants infiltrating traditional film landscapes.

Apple’s Cinematic Gamble: ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ Sparks Industry Debates

With three weekends under its belt, Apple’s inaugural major theatrical release, the $200 million crime epic helmed by Martin Scorsese and starring heavyweights Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, has raked in a global box office revenue of $120 million. Yet, decoding this figure has become as intricate as the film’s daunting three-hour-and-26-minute runtime.

To some industry insiders, like Eric Handler of Roth Capital Partners, the current global box office falls short of positioning the film for profitability, asserting the necessity of driving new subscribers to Apple TV+. If this were a traditional studio release, the movie might be stamped a flop, especially after a disheartening 61% dip in its second weekend. However, a subsequent 25% drop in its third frame offers a glimmer of hope, suggesting the audience is hanging in there.

The streaming arena, dominated by tech titans like Apple and Amazon, introduces a new playbook. Unlike traditional studios, Apple isn’t tethered to Wall Street evaluations based on individual film profit or loss. Streaming subscribers hold the spotlight, altering the definition of box office triumph.

David A. Gross, from Franchise Entertainment Research, adopts a cautious stance: “I don’t think we’re going to know how this turns out for weeks.” The film’s fate may pivot during awards season, kicking off in December, where accolades could validate the film’s hefty budget.

Comparisons to Amazon’s “Air” underscore the opacity of streaming successes or failures. Streaming services guard financial details beyond box office numbers, leaving industry observers in the dark about the real impact of these ventures.

In a theatrical landscape where a $200 million drama is a high-stakes gamble, analysts argue that traditional studios might balk at the economics of “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Apple’s rescue of the project when Paramount Pictures hit a budget wall underlines the streaming giant’s role in bringing adult-oriented, historically significant films to fruition.

Despite muted ticket sales, theaters hail “Killers of the Flower Moon” as a triumph in a lackluster fall season. The film’s lengthy runtime limits daily screenings, but the industry appreciates any semblance of a draw.

Apple’s deep pockets and its nonchalant approach to entertainment spending prompt questions. Does it matter if its theatrical releases aren’t immediate moneymakers? Industry insiders, including Stephen Galloway of Chapman University’s film school, argue that box office earnings are not pure profit, considering substantial distribution and awards campaign costs.

In an additional twist, reports emerge of Leonardo DiCaprio’s eye-watering $40 million payday for his role in the film, a figure comparable to his iconic turn in “Titanic.” This reinforces Apple’s commitment to securing A-list talent for its cinematic endeavors.

Behind the scenes, Martin Scorsese sheds light on creative differences while filming “Killers of the Flower Moon.” While praising DiCaprio’s performance, Scorsese reveals nuances, describing some improvisations as “endless” and not aligning with co-star Robert De Niro’s preferences.

Apple’s venture into high-budget theatrical releases reshapes the industry narrative as “Killers of the Flower Moon” traverses its theatrical journey and anticipates the awards season verdict. With upcoming projects like Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” and Matthew Vaughn’s “Argylle,” Apple remains undeterred in its cinematic pursuits, challenging traditional box office paradigms.

In a surprising turn of events, Warner Bros has chosen to shelve its completed $70 million movie, “Coyote vs Acme,” opting for a substantial $30 million tax write-down. The live-action/animation hybrid comedy, featuring stars like Will Forte, John Cena, and Lana Condor, faced an unexpected fate despite having wrapped up production last year.

The decision was described as “difficult” in an official statement, attributing the move to Warner Bros Pictures Animation’s revamped strategy, now emphasizing theatrical releases. The studio expressed gratitude to the film’s cast, crew, and filmmakers but clarified its shift in focus.

According to Deadline, test screenings for “Coyote vs Acme” boasted results 14 points above the norm for family movies. Originally slated for a July release, the film’s postponement fueled speculation, and now its outright cancellation raises questions about the studio’s direction under new leadership.

Writer-director Brian Duffield, who worked on the film, voiced his frustration on Twitter, calling out Warner Bros for being “anti-art” and expressing hope for metaphorical anvils to fall on their heads. This move follows last year’s cancellation of the $90 million Batgirl, also in post-production, and the sequel Scoob! Holiday Haunt, signaling a pattern of unexpected decisions.

Reportedly, Warner Bros found it financially unviable to shop “Coyote vs Acme” to another studio or release it on its streaming platform Max. This decision aligns with the studio’s recent struggles, as quarterly earnings disclosed a net loss of $417 million.

Directed by David Green, known for “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” (2016), and written by Samy Burch, acclaimed for her screenplay in Todd Haynes’ upcoming drama “May December,” the film’s unique premise was based on a 1990 New Yorker article by Ian Frazier. The plot saw Looney Tunes character Wile E Coyote pursuing legal action against Acme after the company’s products repeatedly failed in his quest for Road Runner.

This move raises concerns about Warner Bros’ commitment to its projects, especially those in post-production. With a string of cancellations, the studio faces criticism for abandoning potentially successful films. The decision not only impacts the filmmakers and talent involved but also reflects the studio’s evolving priorities in a dynamically changing industry.

As Warner Bros grapples with financial challenges and navigates its new strategic direction, the fate of completed films like “Coyote vs Acme” remains uncertain, leaving both industry insiders and fans alike questioning the studio’s approach to its cinematic endeavors.

As the actors’ strike in Hollywood reaches a record-breaking 100 days, the entertainment industry finds itself in disarray, with production schedules thrown into chaos. This strike follows the writers’ strike earlier in the year and has had a severe impact on Hollywood’s recovery from the pandemic.

Hollywood’s Box Office Dilemma

The strikes have triggered a series of delays, and one of the most significant casualties is Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part Two.” Initially slated for release on June 28, 2024, the film has been postponed to May 23, 2025, dealing a substantial blow to the 2024 box office. In its place, the Lupita Nyong’o-led spinoff, “A Quiet Place: Day One,” will now take the spotlight, shifting from its original release date of March 8, 2024. Additionally, the latest “SpongeBob SquarePants” movie, initially set for May 23, 2025, has been pushed back to December 19, 2025. These delays reflect the uncertainty and frustration gripping Hollywood studios.

Disney’s Marvel Lineup Takes a Hit

The strikes have not spared Disney’s Marvel slate either. “Blade,” one of the most highly anticipated Marvel films, has been delayed by five months, moving from September 6, 2024, to February 14, 2025. “Fantastic Four” also faces a delay, shifting from Valentine’s Day 2025 to May 2, 2025. These delays raise concerns about the future of Marvel’s Phase Four and the interconnected storytelling that fans have come to expect. That’s to say nothing of Marvel projects like Ironheart and Daredevil: Born Again, which have been rumored to have been canceled altogether.

Member When Disney Bought Everything?

The strikes have set off a domino effect in Hollywood,  but few studios will take as hard a hit as the megalith that is Disney. “Captain America: Brave New World” has been postponed to July 26, 2024, causing a ripple effect on the release of “Thunderbolts,” which is now scheduled for December 20. Two upcoming “Avengers” movies, “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” have been pushed back by a year, with release dates in May 2026 and May 2027, respectively. Notably, “Deadpool 3,” the first film in the franchise to be part of the MCU, is among the few to advance its premiere date, moving from November 8, 2024, to May 3.

The fate of several other films hangs in the balance. “Spider-Man 4,” produced in collaboration with Sony and featuring Tom Holland as the webslinger, remains undated. Sony’s animated “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,” originally expected in March 2024, has been delayed indefinitely.

More Than Just Movies: TV Shows in Limbo

The strikes have also affected the television landscape. Acclaimed HBO and Max series like “The Last of Us,” “Euphoria,” “House of the Dragon,” “Hacks,” and “The White Lotus” have been pushed back to 2025 and beyond or removed from the release calendar altogether. Highly anticipated shows such as the upcoming “Game of Thrones” spinoff, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight,” and “The Batman” spinoff, “The Penguin,” are now undated. Netflix, too, has experienced delays in the latest seasons of popular shows like “Emily in Paris” and “Stranger Things.” Disney+ series, including “Daredevil: Born Again” and “Wonder Man,” remain in limbo.

Studios Face Uncertainty

The strike-related gaps on the calendar have prompted studios to reevaluate their strategies. Some are shifting release dates for major films, while others are considering moving production outside of North America to mitigate the impact of the strikes.

Warner Bros. Discovery has already adjusted its earnings estimates, reducing them by $300 million to $500 million for the year. Independent production companies, heavily reliant on delivering content, are contemplating layoffs and other cost-cutting measures.

Strike 3

The strikes in Hollywood have thrown the industry into turmoil, causing delays in major movies and TV shows and affecting the release calendar for years to come. The ongoing standoff between the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and the studios adds further uncertainty to Hollywood’s future. As studios and unions grapple with their disputes, the impact is felt across the board, from actors to crew members and, most significantly, audiences. In a time when Hollywood’s quality is already at an all-time low, its resilience is being tested like never before, and only time will reveal the true extent of the aftermath of these strikes.

In the meantime, there are still films trickling into the cinemas. Martin Scorcese’s three-and-a-half-hour “Killers of the Flower Moon” has divided audiences but may be worth your time. “Five Nights At Freddy’s” releases this weekend. If you’re looking for a good scary movie that’s not a gorefest, you can still find some theaters with showtimes for the excellent “A Haunting in Venice.”

In a world where the landscape of children’s entertainment is ever-evolving while values seem to be de-evolving, The Daily Wire, known for its unapologetic approach to news and commentary, has taken a bold leap into the realm of kids’ content with the launch of Bentkey, a new kids entertainment company.

Daily Wire Unveils Surprise: A Magical Kids’ App for Families

On the 100th anniversary of Disney’s founding, The Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing introduced the world to Bentkey, a brand-new kids’ entertainment app. Bentkey, featuring over 150 episodes across 18 shows, including four original productions, aims to provide families with content that harkens back to the days of innocence, wonder, and adventure. New episodes will be delivered every Saturday morning, with additional series continually joining the platform.

A Challenging Time for Disney

The announcement of Bentkey comes at a turbulent time for Disney, as the entertainment giant faces mounting criticism for its shift toward politically charged content. Leaked footage from early 2022 revealed executives advocating for increased inclusion of LGBTQIA themes in children’s content. More recently, videos surfaced of Disney’s live-action “Snow White” star, Rachel Zegler, condemning the classic story that once defined the company.

“While Disney still uses Walt’s name, they have all but abandoned his legacy,” remarked Boreing from his filming location in Lake Bled, Slovenia, where he is directing DailyWire+’s “Pendragon” series. Boreing added, “Disney’s recent trajectory appears to view America as systemically racist, and as a corporation, they promote the most extreme elements of the woke Left.”

Disney, known for its cherished classics, has sparked controversy by revising its iconic films to align with modern sensibilities, which critics argue dilutes the timeless truths these stories originally conveyed.

Bentkey: A Fresh Approach to Kids’ Content

In contrast, Bentkey takes a different path. The name “Bentkey” is a nod to the unique key Jeremy Boreing has worn around his neck for 28 years, symbolizing the company’s distinctive vision. Bentkey was launched separately from DailyWire+ to emphasize its departure from hot-button political issues. Boreing stated, “Bentkey isn’t about teaching kids politics; it’s about childhood, wonder, adventure, and values that politics are built upon.”

Bentkey offers an extensive range of content for children and families to enjoy, including original series like “A Wonderful Day with Mabel Maclay,” “Chip Chilla,” “Kid Fit Go!,” and “Kid Explorer.” These shows are designed to capture the imagination of young minds, encourage wonder, and foster a love for learning.

The platform also features curated content from around the world, selected with the same care and trust parents place in the brand. The investment, both in terms of funds and creative effort, underscores the commitment to providing a wholesome alternative to the current landscape of children’s entertainment.

Embracing Innovation, Building Trust

With Disney’s profound cultural influence, the launch of Bentkey represents a significant alternative for parents seeking entertainment that reflects their values. Boreing, humbly acknowledging Bentkey’s current status compared to Disney, expressed the hope that the company would grow to become a studio with the courage to chase bold ideas, much like Disney once was.

Bentkey is now available on a variety of platforms, including desktop, iOS, Android, AppleTV, Roku, and FireTV. It can be accessed as a standalone purchase for $99 a year, offering great content that families can trust and children will love to watch.

While the cultural landscape may be shifting, The Daily Wire’s Bentkey is stepping into the breach, offering a ray of hope for families who yearn for classic storytelling and values in children’s entertainment. In a time when timeless truths can seem scarce, Bentkey emerges as a beacon of wonder and adventure, reminiscent of the magic that once captivated generations.

“Snow White and the Evil Queen” – A Tale of Beauty and Power

As Bentkey takes its first steps in the world of kids’ content, it simultaneously embarks on an ambitious cinematic journey with the announcement of its first live-action feature film, “Snow White and the Evil Queen.” This enchanting story is set to hit screens in 2024, promising to captivate audiences with a classic tale of princesses and princes, beauty and vanity, and the enduring power of love.

Bentkey’s adaptation of this ancient fairy tale aims to stay true to the timeless truths embedded in the narrative, starkly contrasting the direction Disney has taken with its remake of the iconic “Snow White.” While Disney’s updated version has been met with controversy for altering the core values of the original, Bentkey’s “Snow White and the Evil Queen” promises to offer a faithful retelling that honors the story’s classic elements and character arcs.

In a world where cherished tales are being reimagined, Bentkey’s commitment to preserving the integrity of beloved narratives is a reassuring step for those who hold dear the values and traditions passed down through generations.

As Bentkey continues its journey in kids’ entertainment and ventures into the realm of feature films, it remains to be seen how this new player will shape the future of children’s content and whether its dedication to timeless storytelling will resonate with a generation in need of wonder and adventure.

Suzanne Somers, best known for her role as Chrissy Snow on the popular sitcom “Three’s Company,” has sadly passed away at the age of 76. She succumbed to breast cancer after a protracted 23-year battle with the disease. Her family confirmed the news of her passing in a statement provided by her long-time publicist, R. Couri Hay.

Somers had been fighting breast cancer since her initial diagnosis in 2000. Despite her long battle, she remained determined to fight it. In July, she shared on Instagram that her cancer had returned and expressed her resolve to battle it once again. Her decision to pursue alternative treatments and an organic lifestyle approach, in contrast to traditional chemotherapy, had been met with controversy and criticism, particularly from medical professionals and organizations such as the American Cancer Society.

Born in 1946 in San Bruno, California, Somers began her career in the late 1960s with a minor role in George Lucas’s film, “American Graffiti.” She had just one line in the movie but later referred to that moment as life-changing. She went on to have a notable presence in 1970s television and film, with appearances in “The Rockford Files,” “Magnum Force,” and “The Six Million Dollar Man.”

Her most prominent role came in “Three’s Company,” where she portrayed the ditzy blonde character alongside John Ritter and Joyce DeWitt. In 1980, she made headlines by demanding equal pay with Ritter, asking for a raise from $30,000 to $150,000 per episode. Her request led to her dismissal from the show and a subsequent divide with her co-stars.

Despite the challenges, Somers used her departure from “Three’s Company” as an opportunity to explore other career avenues. She ventured into Las Vegas performances, authored numerous books, hosted a talk show, and even became an entrepreneur. Her association with the “ThighMaster” exercise device, advertised on infomercials, became a significant part of her legacy and contributed to substantial financial success, along with her husband, Alan Hamel.

Suzanne Somers was known for authoring over 25 books, several of which became bestsellers. Her writings typically focused on health, well-being, and aging issues. She notably advocated for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, often describing it as the “juice of youth” for menopausal women, a position that received criticism from the medical community for its unproven and potentially unsafe aspects.

While her career was marked by moments of controversy and conflict, Suzanne Somers leaves behind a complex legacy, one that includes her contributions to entertainment, fitness, and health literature. Her impact on the worlds of entertainment and wellness, along with her unwavering advocacy for alternative approaches to health, will be remembered with admiration by some and by others with skepticism.

The DC Universe is undergoing a significant transformation, and it’s becoming increasingly clear that none of the actors who portrayed the main Justice League characters in Zack Snyder’s era DCEU will be reprising their roles in the new DC Universe (DCU), spearheaded by James Gunn and Peter Safran. This revelation raises questions about the fate of these iconic characters and their impact on the DCU’s future.

While Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck have already confirmed their departures, fans were left wondering about the futures of Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, and Jason Momoa within the franchise. A recent report from Variety sheds some light on the matter, suggesting that these actors may return for James Gunn’s upcoming projects but not in their previous Snyderverse roles.

It’s evident that the new DC Universe is departing from the old regime, signaling a significant shift in the DCU landscape. While rumors have circulated that Jason Momoa might portray Lobo in the DCU, it appears that Gal Gadot and Ezra Miller’s paths may diverge from Wonder Woman and The Flash, respectively. Variety’s report states that none of the stars cast by Zack Snyder in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Justice League” will reprise their roles in character in the new DC Universe.

However, it’s important to note that these revelations are not official confirmations from DC Studios, leaving fans in suspense about the future of these beloved characters.

James Gunn, along with Peter Safran, is spearheading the new era of DC content, and he has been providing glimpses of his plans for the franchise through social media. While Gunn has debunked numerous rumors about future DCU stars, he has remained what we will charitably call “cryptic” about the fates of Gal Gadot and Ezra Miller.

As DC Studios navigates this transition, the future of character crossovers between the old and new franchises appears limited. It seems that the upcoming “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” may mark the closing of the book on the DCEU’s Justice League, leaving fans cautiously anticipating the unveiling of the DC Universe’s new direction.

The uncertainty surrounding the Justice League and its core members presents an intriguing challenge for the DC Universe. As fans await further developments, the stage is set for James Gunn and Peter Safran to explore uncharted territory in the world of DC Comics, charting a brave and bold course for the future of this iconic comic universe.
