Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio

Guillermo del Toro has spent his career setting himself apart from more "mainstream" filmmakers. In Pinocchio, he has once again successfully portrayed the macabre with surprising delicacy and complexity. His signature style, rich with symbolism and carefully crafted environments, gives the film a lived-in feel that elevates the emotional connection to the film's characters for older viewers.

That said, del Toro's artistry can, at times, make the film feel bloated and unnecessarily complicated.
