One often overlooked aspect of this film is that it includes a woman – Alabama – who does an awful job without losing her humanity and shows tremendous strength of character without losing her femininity. Her character is one reason this film is so popular with women, despite the violence and the language.

But it’s a film from an era that recognised strong women without needing to turn them into men..
